Berkeley Free Speech Clinic

The Free Speech Legal Clinic is a partnership between the journalism and legal professions. Its mission is to educate, advise, and represent journalists and documentarians with respect to the most pressing legal issues they face—access to public records, protection of confidential sources and material, Fair Use/copyright infringement, defamation, and a range of other issues that touch on media law, newsgathering, and the Firs Amendment. We provide the advice and representation necessary to allow journalists to do their job.

The Free Speech Legal Clinic is especially targeted to journalists and documenatarians at the beginning of their careers. Access to legal services is equally critical for independent journalists and journalists at small media outlets, who often lack the resources and connections of committed First Amendment practitioners.
