Community Activism Alive and Well in San Diego!
Last month, the First Amendment Project (FAP) accepted representation of Katherine Lopez, a community activist in San Diego who had been sued for statements she put in an email in which she encouraged members of the community to testify at a governmental proceeding ( a community planning committee meeting). We immediately demanded that the plaintiff dismiss the suit citing the absolute statutory protections California law gives to such communications. Today, we received confirmation that the suit was dismissed. A really nice, and easy, victory.
