Artists

The arts have been a vehicle for social change and political debate throughout history. And at the same time artistic expression has been subject to censorship and challenges by those who seek to suppress the debate. Artists, especially those who address social justice issues in their work, continue to see their First Amendment rights to create and present their work challenged in a variety of contexts.

FAP produces educational materials including course curricula, publications and seminars on issues of freedom of artistic expression.
FAP operates the Freedom Of Artistic Expression Hotline (800-477-6233) to explain legal principles and offer strategic advice to artists around the country
FAP also provides legal representation to artists in California and participates in amicus briefs nationwide.
NCFE (National Campaign for Freedom of Expression) published a handbook to advise and help artists facing censorhip challenges.
